Poor Barb. She just can't stay out of trouble, no matter how hard she tries. But this time she has a good reason family friend Colt Baron has gone missing. When soccer mom, Barbara Marr, and her ex-FBI husband, Howard, begin following clues in a search for their treasured pal, they find themselves crashing a rather racy sort of party – a soiree for swinging couples. Awkward. What they learn there is...interesting. But the question is, does the information lead them to Colt?

This fourth book in the Barbara Marr Murder Mystery Series teams Barb with her handsome husband Howard in yet another rollicking and hilarious suburban fiasco..

Rustic Woods has never been the same since Barbara Marr first found monkeys in her yard, and now she's found a few dismembered male parts on the walking path behind her house. This time, instead of following her curiosity, Barbara wants nothing to do with solving the identity of the victim. Howard is still recovering from his accident at the end of the last installment, and Barbara is convinced she's in the early throws of menopause. When their best friend Colt goes missing, Barbara and Howard can't help but start an investigation into his disappearance.

After reading the previous installments of the Barbara Marr series, I was slightly disappointed in this book. I felt like it wasn't given as much attention to detail like the previous books, especially when it came to Barbara's character. The story was good, but I was irritated with Barbara's constant moodiness and how everything just fell into place for her. With a little bit more creativity, I would of given the book all five stars.

Saturday Night Cleaver A Barbara Marr Murder Mystery Book 4 edition by Karen Cantwell Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

Whew, this book in the series was the best yet! Intrigue, suspense and danger all wrapped up in a suburban Mom's crazy life. This woman has more dangerous encounters than a long-time cop. The entire crew in this series is likeable, fun, funny and sometimes downright crazy. You won't go wrong reading this series!
I just discovered Barb Marr and the Rustic Woods last year when one of the e-newsletters featured a brief excerpt of book three, and I was hooked. Downloaded the whole collection that night, and caught the download for this wonderful #4 right before New Years. My only complaint is that I can't have a new one each week. I'm thinking ABC needs to develop a show on Barb's life to slip in the line-up between The Middle and Modern Family. Perfect fit. As far as this story goes, most of the other reviewers have already hit the high points, so I'll first just say "ditto", but want to add what I truly love about this series 1) The couple actually have a solid marriage, and love each other, and keep things from one another, and deal with life the way any married couple would. I get so tired of so many mystery series getting bogged down in the "will they or won't they get together/stay together/marry/see they're made for each other--what have you. A good relationship doesn't mean the mystery has to turn into a romance, it just means it can mirror reality, and this series--for all it's fun side-trips--does a good job at feeling real. 2) Yes, the stories take on the characteristics of capers sometimes, but that just keeps me laughing and coming back for more. Finally, 3) The whole gang is involved in Saturday Night Cleaver--everyone who's ever had a part in the previous volumes. And even though one neighbor tried to escape Rustic Woods in the last book, her name and house is called up for duty in this one, too. Not to mention that you'll never look at a skillet the same again after finishing this story.

When you think life is too hectic and you need a place to escape, pick up this book or any of the Barbara Marr series, then sit back and enjoy the ride.
I enjoyed the book but not as much as the two others by the author that I have read; nevertheless, I would expect most readers who have followed this series will read it with pleasure. Following a series by an author with whose characters one has become involved is much different than reading without fixing on particular writers with whose work one feels comfortable. That has been true of me, at any rate. When the works of Rex Stout (Nero Wolfe), the two cousins who were Ellery Queen, Richard and Frances Lockridge (Mr. and Mrs. North and the two major offsprings of that series) and others of that era and today (Kaminsky and Company), some books I liked more than others, but I would still look to read all of them because I had become attached to the style and the characters with their distinctive ways. I have not yet reached that point with Karen Cantwell but I see from the reviews that others have. I would surely recommend the book for these fans and incipient fans (myself included). For others who have not read anything by the author, I would give a conditional recommendation not everyone is going to take to this middle aged woman with former FBI husband, their children and their respective mothers who have a role to play in this book. The latter can give her a trial with this book, in which she is more than a little cantankerous at the fact that Age 50 is looming within the year. If you like this one, you are very likely going to like its predecessors. ( I have the succeeding volume in the series but have not gotten to it yet.)
I somehow forgot to write this review until now, several days after actually reading and reviewing the next book after this one. I loved this book, but it was a crazy fun plot. The characters are fun. I won't bore you with a plot summary as I know other reviewers are fond of doing that. The exception I will make in this instance is that even though it is actually a misunderstanding in the book, there is talk about wife swapping and swinging, so some people might not want their sheltered children to read about it. I appreciate that this book has chapter demarcations. Chapter demarcations make it so much easier to see how close you are to the end of a chapter or to find a stopping place when you need to do so. If you liked the previous books in the series, I say you should give this one a shot because I don't think you will be disappointed. Have at it!
